RAPTOR Air Box Modifications
#1
I've posted a couple of pictures of some air box modifications I did the other day. The bike was running rich with 160/165s, so I drilled a bunch of holes in the top of the air box lid and took it riding at Rocky Ridge. The plug still showed to be very slightly rich and since there was very little dirty water marks on top of the air box lid (and I rode through several streams and very deep mud) I thought it would be safe to open it up even more (couldn't remove it since it's needed to hold the filter in place). I still plan on installing an aftermarket filter which should dial it in perfect for our hot summers. You can find the pictures under the 'Raptor Pictures' section, and I never promised it would be pretty!

RaptorWarr,
The bike runs absolutely GREAT now!!! You better be holding on in 2nd gear, it will remove the wrinkles in you shirt sleeves.
The plug looked slightly on the rich side (160/165) with just the holes drilled in it and I have not checked the plug since putting the bigger cut-outs in the lid, but it did seem to make it pull a little harder. With the soon addition of the aftermarket air filter, it should be dialed in perfect - which it basically is now, anyway.

Hey Bart...I know what your trying to accomplish with the air box lid...but wouldn't a 1" hole saw have done you a better job? I've got 8 holes in the lid on mine, and it looks really sano. Oh well, as long as the end result is the same, right? I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist.

Yea, a 1" hole saw would have made it look better, but I didn't have one and I was bored! Besides, anyone can cut holes with a hole saw, but not everyone can create art!
