Default Best Winch Mount

Hello to everyone

I own a 07 Grizzly 350 IRS 4X4. It's a great machine, goes everywhere my buddy's KQ 700 and Rincon goes.

I'm looking to add a winch. I want a Warn XT25 or 30. However, the factory winch placement sucks! When I get home from the trails and go to clean my bike, I can't imagine having a winch down there because it would be ruined in no time with the way mud and debris collects. So what's the best winch mount out there? I'm trying to find something that will mount the winch up high.

Is there anything that you've done custom because you weren't satisfied with the factory winch placement? Post some pics, I'm looking for ideas if I can't find anything off the shelf to buy.

Thanks

I've monted them on the top of the rack before, but the only problem there is it puts your pulling point too high...

My '07 Kodiak has the Warn winch in the factory location and has been through lots of mud, swamp, sand, etc. and I have not had any issues with it. I just always give her a good bath after riding.

P.S. Your comparison between the KQ700 and your 350 is very similar to the ride I just went on. One of the guys I was with has a Outlander 800 twin and I took it for a ride for a little while.

Yes it's nice and has lots of power and torque but my 450 kept up with him in everything except the long straight-aways. He even admits that the mid-size Grizzly/Kodiaks are extremely capable and reliable machines. Having a big bore machine is nice but it's not everything.

I was thinking that mounting on the top of the rack would be the easiest, but you're right that it's too high.

Montana Jack's has an awesome system for mounting winches up high but they seem to not want to do a system for us smaller Grizzleys.

I'll probably go with Warn's multi-mount set up.

I agree with Headpressure...

My winch is mounted in the stock location down low on the front of my Grizzly 450. After a year of mud, water, mud, water, and using it while submerged in mud and water It is working just fine! I took it apart over the winter, cleaned it down, and re-greased it. Great winch! Either the XT25 or XT30 would suit you just fine.

The guys at KFI fabrication are awesome. They have the standard mount for your Grizz, but if you call and tell them what you want, they should be able to make it for you. Check out thier web site.

If you look at the Montana Jacks one its only 1 1/4" receiver, If you can get someone to weld something like that to yours it would be nice.
I have it on my grizzly but not enough demand for the kodiak.

Not only not enough demand, but also if they designed one for my 350 it probably wouldn't fit on a 450 because of the radiator. They would probably want one that would work on all of the bruin/kodiak/smaller grizz due to the similar size but it just wouldn't work.

On the 350 there is no engine coolant radiator so the section just above the factory winch mount is begging to be filled with a winch/ winch mount!

I'm going to see what KFI can do for me, thanks for that lead!
