Default carb prob

i bought a used 2001 warrior. the idle was high after it warmed up so i turned down the throttle screw. while doing this a burst of gas-air came out of screw. now when it idles it dies as this burst of air-gas is spitting out of throttle screw. when i turn throttle back up it runs pretty good, only doing this burst of air very rarely, but then the idle is way too high.
anyone with any idea why?
