Kodiak 400
#1
First time owner of an ATV. I love the machine, but the squeaking from the rear brakes is really annoying. The machine only has 330 miles. It is an 2005 and reading some of the back discussion it seems that this was a common problem. I was wondering if a good solution was ever found to fix the problem. It does not sound to difficult to fix, but looking for some guidance on what I should do.
Thanks for any help

I was crusin' through some old posts and stumbled on this one...
2 of the Kodiaks I've had (400 & 450) have had the infamous "brake squeel".
At low speeds it sounds like the bike is a pile of $h!t, the only remedy short of buying a 2008 model with the new sealed wet brake is to change the stock brake pads with the dust cathching cooling slices in them to higher quality aftermarket pads without said $h!tty slices in them.
And voila!!! Problem solved!!! Probably for less than $100 and that's alot cheaper than buying a new 2008. Eh!?

Pads are only $30-35 for the good EBC SV Series heavy duty pads....
Honestly - after 330 miles the stock pads could be shot! mine were done after 550 miles... It depends on how much mudding / etc the machine has been through. Brakes in general squeal as well from just plain being dirty....
I'd take the wheel off - take the caliber off... clean it up, see what the pads look like and go from there. I recently installed the EBC pads all around on my machine - and so far so good - no squeal at all...

Thanks for the information and the research. I will put to use and fix the problem. One quick question though. If the brakes are shot at 330 miles is this a braking issue?? In other words is someone riding the brake??
Thanks,
Tom

Braking issue no.. just the result of riding in real muddy terrain and not cleaning the bike between each ride.. good muddy muck likes to chew down stock pads quick!
