How often should i check my compression?

stock motor is 140-160 just 2-3 kicks should be fine for the compression gauge. i'd do it now since you just bought it and also do it when you maintain the bike. such as an oil changes.

since it is a 2 smoker..I'd check it often..every couple months(depending on how much you ride it)..I know people from long ago that raced 2 stroke bikes and they did a top end rebuild every few races..I've always been a thumper man,but I'm sure some two stroke guys will come in and give better advice..
Also I'm not sure about two strokes..But on my thumpers,I hold the throttle wide open when either kicking (4 to five kicks) or pressing the start button and letting it turn over about the same amount of times..

I test mine when they are cold. When its warmed up you will get better compression form a motor with weak compression because the rings expand when they heat up. The most important time to have good compresion is when its cold and you have to kick start it. I had motor that ran (2 stroke) with compression at 55psi cold but was a bitch to start. Once it warmed up it didnt make great power like it had before but ran smooth and pulled itself. Ive also had 4 strokes that smoked like they were on fire when cold but 5 min later barely at all and ran fine.
