I was about to get a K&N till I heard some cases of sand making it through the K&N filter. Is the UNI air filter any better ?

Been there done that. Go with K&N with the prefilter. Sand will go right through the foam.

If your going to be doing any mudding you should definatly go with the UNI filter. For mostly trail riding go with the K&N its lets alot more air pass through.
