ETXLR8,

I went through the exact same thing, and my parts guy (who rides a 426) HIGHLY recommended the Pro Circuit, since the GYTR was on BACKORDER. I got it right away and it mounted in 10 minutes. Nice change to bottom end, but like the above post says, quality pipes are all in your preference. I have now added an FMF Powerbomb headpipe, Pro Design Filter, and a Dynojet jet kit as well. DJ recommends not cutting into the airbox lid, but just removing the flaps inside the snorkel...they claim velocity will fall off the intake charge if you put uni-vents in the lid. Anyway, mine ran fine without jet changes UNTIL I changed the filter, then I got a snap-bog-hesitation in the low-mid transition, so it was off to jetting land. Since the pilots were hard for me to get locally, I opted for the Dynojet kit. So far (I just installed it) I highly recommend it. NOW, I can tell some difference! I bought the "quiet" spark arrestor as well, but it sounds like muffled, spitting a$$, don't get it. I tried without the arrestor, and IT'S REAL LOUD, and doesn't really seam to help. The T4 Silencer polished out real easily with a wheel, drill, and fine compound. Looks easily as good as the GYTR now. They're both open baffle, just like the "other" popular pipes, so I don't see how one could be that much better than the other (as stated above)...good choice...simple and good value! Sorry so long, but I wish someone could've done this for me 2 months ago! I will add that a ceramic-coated headpipe (like Big Gun) may be a better choice when you get to that point. Good Luck! Ride Out!

I would appreciate some advice as to drilling out an airbox. How many holes, what size, what about dust and a little water when washing etc?

kmg,

Though I've postponed my drilling until I test a little more, I've seen that most guys use 6 x 1" holes in their lids...I've got uni-vent covers to install on mine...they're 1" grills with a foam pre-filter...not a bad choice if you want to open it up...like I said in my post, Dynojet advised against removing or modifying the lid, other than removing the flaps, saying that it would slow the intake air charge. I agree that it might, but can't confirm if it would have a negative effect on performance. I've personally taken off my lid just to experiment, and it does have better response, BUT, the top end MAY be a little flatter. The uni-vents are less than $10 for six and should help you keep out elements better than open holes. Good Luck...RIDE OUT!!!!
