to me yamaha got the 450 right for 2004 and then vastly improved it in 2006. because their original intent/plan was to replace the 250R on the racetracks with a production 450 (well 439cc at that time) closs machine; they did a better job, IMO, than honda did.
i dont know who the naysayers were but i knew they had this ace in the hole. glad to see my sources were proven. i have always been a fan of efi and the frame concept and the YFZ (i know i dont have one). the efi has a 42mm injector; the new honda CRF450R has a 50mm. I wonder why and if that was the only way they could get the power where they wanted it... It def will be in the 2010 TRX now that yamaha has shown its hand. competition heats up!!!!

So can we see a YFZ 450R in that future catagory?

quite possibly!
note though: there are 2 versions of the YFZ; the YFZ450 and YFZ450R. The "R" has all the cool new stuff. the other one is still the same great YFZ it always was to me....hmmmmm.

To me I love the direction Yamaha has taken the last few years (unlike there home country competition [img]i/expressions/brokenheart.gif[/img], But if you look at the Yamaha machines that have come out new the last five years they are either on top or soon to be on top of there class (esp the sport quad class with the 250,450,700 and then you have the new 550 Grizz and the allready have the big bore class wraped up with the Grizz 700 then the class that Yamaha created with the Rino) Yamaha is doing whatever it takes to keep them there.
I do realy belive that not does Yamaha just want to be the best at what they do they want everyhing esp taking away that coveted #1 atv seller away from Honda!

yamaha is definitely aggressive. their approach, attitute and marketting is a take no prisoners, ***** to the wall deal. i see at least 5x commercials for yamaha than i do for honda. in the face of the dark ages of atving, they never dropped anything from their lineup. when honda quit making the 250R, suzuki quit making the quadracers, kawasaki quit the tecates, yamaha stil continued with their sport lineup. they didnt change it much, if at all, on some things but they forged ahead and did NOT turn their back on us atvers. hats off to yamaha b/c you have to ask if they didnt what would have happened? they kept the flame lit.
one thing i didnt really pay attention too until this link from QUAD, was the seat on the new yfz-R. i guess they did want any complaints from it this time! i will admit the pre-06 models had horrible *** seats like sitting on a brick. that was my biggest complaint with them. the last one i was on was an 08 and that seat was nice. nicer than (dare i say) the TRX450R!

Ok, but its still 7,999 American dollars on the yamaha website. Still way too much money for something that will depreciate so quickly.
</end quote></div>
$7,999 pricing is awsome compared to the Can-Am SX machine and the KTM SX. heck it is only like $600 more than the regular YFZ.

Anyone notice the different weight spec? The old YFZ used to have a dry weight of 350 lbs. This one has a "wet weight" of 405 lbs. I wonder what the dry weight is on the new YFZ? It definitely looks like an improved YFZ though.
