Sorry, the reed valve acts like a intake valve on a four-stroke. In opens up on the intake stroke or when the piston is in the up stroke, then when the piston travels down the reeds close and allow the air/fuel mixture to travel though the intake ports of the jug. Hope this helps.

If your reeds are cracked it would be hard to start and it will not idle very good.

Hey Ernie, Yes, you are correct. Starting fluid and reed valves do not mix. I tried to start the bike the next day and it started in reverse. I removed the plug, cranked it for a few minutes/ let sit and then reinstalled the plug and tried again. The engine ran alot better and now works in foward gear.

Ernie, Can I pick your brain about another question.

MINIMUM CIRCUIT FOR RUNNING

My thoughts are as follows

Stator /Flywheel. You need the white and red / black wire connected to the CDI.

CDI connect the orange wire to the ignition coil.

tie the black and black /white from the cdi to close the circuit / disables kill switch.

Would this be acceptable. Can the carb and throttle sensors be eliminated and what do they actually do. Any thoughts? My parts blaster did comes with an oil injection tank and was operation. Should I connect it or disable it as most people have done and pre mix the gas?

I would leave the oil tank off and just premix the fuel, safer that way..

Ok the wiring for the cdi I am really not sure about I haven't messed with a Blaster in about 10 years.

The wiring for the carb (Tors) is crap. Just bypass it completely, better yet purchase a Tors elemenator kit from Vito's or any other vendor.

if u think the reeds are bad then just pull the carb and see.. If the tors isnt working properly the bike will just idle, and wont take a rev if i remember correct. Usually if a blaster wont run and it has spark, either rings or reeds shot. If the reeds did break make sure to find the broken piece.

Default Blaster engines runs backwards

Hello All,

Well I have cleaned the carb with a solid core wire and some carb cleaner. the reed valve looks good and I have 2 of them that looks good and exactly the same. The bike does run and revs but smokes then dies after a few minutes( rebuild of carb)/ clean

Compression tried 6 times using the third kick as a reference number. 50 is not a good number.

The piston is .60 and has a marking of 37101. The cylinder looks good. Can I do a hone and re ring the piston for any improvement? can I go with a .75 ring and file it down. I dont want to do a bore right now if I dont have to.

Ok, Just thinking. So compression is very important to how the 2 stroke bike runs because on the downstroke the reed valves are being sucked open rather than a car which might have a valve which is not dependant on compression. As you can see , I am a neoo to the blaster and any other bike.

I will measure the bore and the piston and see what clearance I have. At what point do you bore?? would anything under .005 be acceptable? any suggestions

Ok, .0035 would be the max in my opinion. Fresh bore should be around .002 to .0025. Also keep in mind about running 32:1 ratio fuel and oil.

Those Blasters are prone to running backwards if the flywheel keyway gets even slightly damaged from a hard stall on landing from a jump and the such. Actually happens quite often. Throws the ignition timing off just enough to create a backfire at initial spark, sending the piston back down before it ever reached TDC to begin with. Which results in the crankshaft rotating backwards.
So if it begins to do this again, check into the condition of your flywheel key.

Hello,

Thanks for the great hints and tricks . I just reinstalld the flywheel and all seemed to be ok. I will double check that and re ring the top end. Thiere is hardly no slop ( piston to wall clearance)

The piston to cylinder wall clearance is about .0023. With that said, The cross hatch marks are still visible after the bore and hone. it appears that the new rings did not seal properly and the walss have a glaze. Can the old rings be used after a hone or do I need new rings. What is the norm for this?

Chuck.
