The 4-stroke snowmobile that Arctic Cat is now making in limited numbers is no where near as powerful as any of their full size models.

Most mid-size snowmobiles now make in the neighborhood of 100hp, and they need so much horsepower because of the amount of drag created by all the snow.

Before we see the manufacters give up on 2 stroke snowmobiles they'll try everything they can think of to reduce emissions, such as direct fuel injection.

The yellowstone model is obviously not produced with performance in mind.

As for Honda and the CR series, I believe they'll switch to 4-stroke motocrosses and call them RC's.
It doesn't suprise me at all that Honda would quit making 2-strokes. A few years ago thay gave up making the leading engine for Formula-1 race cars because they said that the racing series did not promote cleaner emmisions technology.

Ya, to me the article said that they won't produce 2 strokes for the everyday Joe just for race teams. That's how I took it...

The fourstroke cat almost as powerful!!!! It is the heaviest snowmobile ever made and makes less hp than the Fan cooled Z440 kids sled! The fourstroke is forced on the atv industry and because of lack of reference they seem powerful, but in the snowmobile industry a 4stroke would flop.Too heavy and the most powerful 4stroke engine available would have a worse power to weight ratio than the current 500 twins. And everyone who doesn't know LISTEN>> THE CR IS CLOSED COURSE AND NOT AN OFF ROAD MACHINE AND PRODUCTION WILL NOT BE AFFECTED.HONDA WAS JUST TRYING TO SOUND GOOD BY STATING SOMETHING THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN DOING FOR YEARS.If honda switched to all 4stroke CRs, they would be laughed off the track, the YZFs have their strong points and are revolutionary 4strokes, but still infierior to 2strokes.

Does anybody here work for Yamaha? Do you know if they have plans to follow in hondas footsteps and begin taking their 2 stroke quads and dike bikes out of their new lineup?

Polaris is the only one who's making large displacement 2 stroke engines. All the rest have gone to bloated 4 strokes, I'm not saying 4 strokes are bad but at least make an equal effort to continue the production of new model 2 strokes. That is something the Japanese companies have lost.

LONG LIVE POLARIS!!!

ya know scramdaddy, all the posts i see you write are either praising polaris for their "excellent" atvs, or downing other manufacturers that happen to make much better atvs than polaris. And Yamaha still continues to make a big bore 2 stroke, the banshee. The epa does not make exceptions to taking away the two stroke design from Yamaha and honda so polaris or not they are still going to go away, its just a matter of time. Polaris is not keeping them for any longer than the others, and polaris also only makes one 2 stroke. So "long live polaris"? I dont think so

Daredevil1 if I recall polaris has 4 production 2 strokes out.

Trailblazer 250: mid size sport/utility.

Scrambler 400 2x4: 400cc 2 stroke sport quad.

Explorer 250 4x4: mid size utility.

Explorer 400 4x4: 400cc 2 stroke utility quad.

Also if my memory serves me correct polaris has the largest displacement 2 stroke production engine.
