grizzley 600 wont start
#1
first off I cant seem to find out too much about this wheeler, it is a 600 4x4 grizzley....I am un sure of year(altho I am told it was only made for a few years)I am wanting to say either a 98 or 99 model year.
here is my question .... it turns over easliy, sounds like it has either low compression or timing is off.
when i try to start it it will back fire thru the exhaust and sometimes thru carb.
I am trying to figure out timing specs and valve lash ..as well compression ratings , I am a avid gear head so working on the atv seems pretty easy off so far.
I just need any ideas on it or maybe some place I can get some specs from
so please any one that can help let me know ...thanks

Go to www. yamahausa.com and set up your owner profile. You can find an online manual there along with specs for your bike. Once you input the VIN#, it should tell you Model# and year of manufacture.
Good Luck.

thanks for the link ,that was helpfull.
well I was still unable to get a running quad so I rolled up the ol sleeves slapped on some elbo grease and tore in to it.
Upon removing the upper part of the head to further inspect the valve faces, I noticed something odd........
the piston....on the rear of it is a silver discoloration and some well not so nice grooves in it..
here is the odd ball....you can make the piston rock front to back about an 8'th ofor less. I mean like its rockin like you have the piston and rod in your hand and the piston rocks on the wrist pin....
