Default AMSOIL Formula 4 Stroke - 0w40

Thinking of going synthetic on my 660 Grizz, any reasons why I shouldn't?
Any comments, good or bad about AMSOIL 0w40?
Better synthetic?
What filters are you guys using? Yamaha or other?
I'm from the upper midwest and running my machine in extreme cold temps mostly, with occasional trail riding in summer.

Besides it,s cheaper ,if anyone can find a advantage of dinosaur oil over synthetic it would be a first.

Well, if your Griz calls for 0W-40, I can't see any reason why you can't use synthetic oil... and the AMSOIL would be a great choice. My son uses it in his CAT, and I use it in my Sportsman.

I also run AMSOIL in my John Deere garden tractor, and in one of our vehicles. I have nothing but good things to say about AMSOIL products (except the prices). :-)

With that said, Mobil makes a 0W-40 oil for ATV's that a lot of folks seem to prefer. Same thing goes for Shell's Rotella ATV oil. (not sure if they have 0W-40)

Hope this helps.

The manual says not to use oils with molybendium (or something like that) in the Wolverine as it will cause the transmission to slip. I don't know if Amsoil has any in it or not, probably shouldn't take the chance though...

I run the ow-40 in my 400 Big Bear and I won't run anything else . Good solid starts in the cold and it is meant to run in hot and cold weather extremes .

It's pricey but you will know what your getting when your running on hot days and your fan comes on less than your buddies who don't use it and on them -30 or more days out on the ice when their rigs either fail to turn over or do so under duress .

Even fuel mileage seems to come into play .

I also run the two stroke version of it in all my two strokes .

Yeah , I love the stuff enough to become a preferred customer now . LOL

The 0W-40 AMSOIL Powersports oil is "wet clutch" compatible, if that is what you mean. However, I agree, one should be absolutely certain before switching. Besides, the oil that the manufacturer recommends is usually pretty good stuff too.

Any full synthetic "Motorcycle oil" will do. If it will not cause the wet clutches of a 150hp street bike to slip while doing a smoke sceen brake stand then chances are it will be fine for any manual ATV.

If a Nascar or a GP race bike tred to run cheap conventional oil during a race the motor would blow long before the finish line came up.

Synthetics oils handle extreme temperature better, last longer before properties break down and leave less sludge deposits after long periods of time.

Search goggles "Synthetic oil vs Conventional oil" and try to find a dinosaurs oil advantage besides its cheap to buy. Yamahalube and Honda GN4 do not even give you that one little advantage.
