How to change a belt
I never seen a belt that you need a tool if you need to change it.
There designed that they can be changed on the trail.

First off welcome to the Site!
That video is good, it is however for a Polaris - I know the Yamaha isn't much different... One thing I recommend is to put Antisieze compound on all the bolts that hold the belt cover onto the engine.. those are steel bolts going into aluminum cut threads... I also recommend going with an OEM Belt..
Right from the Yamaha Manual:
Note: Once your D/L the manual it is on Page 3-34(101 of 397)
Replacing steps:
STEP 1: Install the bolts (M6x1.0x45mm) into the secondary fixed sheave hold.
STEP 2: Tightening the bolts will push the secondary sliding sheave away, causing the gap between the secondary fixed and sliding sheaves to widen.
STEP: 3: Remove the V-belt from the primary sheave and secondary sheave.
Install the V-belt.
STEP 1: Install the V-belt so that its arrow faces the direction shown in the illustration.
STEP 2: Remove the bolts.

Here is the link to the Yamaha manual for the 03-06 Kodiak 450's. Changing the
Manual

The link for the manual works but sometimes you just need to work it a bit...
1. Click the link in the Message
2. Scroll down to the Section in the BLUE Box that says "05-06 Kodiak 450" and Click "DOWNLOAD FILE"
3. Your download SHOULD start...
IF NOT
4. Scroll down to the Bottom.... where you will see
" Your download should begin shortly.
If it does not, try <u>Download file now</u> "
That should do the trick

thanks for the replys guys.
Are the bolts to widen the sheaves a special bolt, or will a hardware store caryy them?
Thank you again
great site!!!</end quote></div>
Yea.. a Hardware store should carry them as long as they have metric hardware.. you want an M6x1.0 pitch ( threads per mm) x 45 mm long. In fact.. now that I know those bolts will help.. I am going to pick up a 1/2 dozen.. though I know I only need 2
Ski-doo snowmobiles come with a threaded tool to install into the Secondary which help make changing the sled belts easier...
