tdc on comp. stroke
im putting an 88 warrior topend back together and i want to make sure i get the cam and valves set at tdc on the compresion stroke, also iv seen on forums where they say the exhaust clearance is .016 to .020,in my service manuel the valve clearance is much closer like .005 to .007.

.016 & .020 millimeters, which is the same as .005 & .007 inches.
Set the crank to where you can see the "T" thru the peephole at the magneto, make sure the piston is at TDC by gently sticking a clean screwdriver into the sparkplug hole, turn the cam so that both valves are closed (there will be play in the rocker arms) and the mark on the cam gear is around 11 o'clock. Then you can move the timing chain around the cam gear to get the head tit and the cam gear mark lined up. It usually never lines up exactly. I think I have always set mine to the right of the mark and never had any problems.
