I am having trouble starting my raptor and after a few tries it backfires. it is still under warranty but the shop is out of town and i dont want to load it up if it is an easy fix. any ideas??

 

if it backfires, out the exhuast, sounds lik its rich. try running a hotter plug, that can help in winter starting

 

what year and size is it??

 

im guessing its the 700 in his name??? i ddnt mean to point out the obvious lol. do you think mabe a compression release? ik the 450's have a manual compression release and if you dont hit it sometime they will not fire. but mostly on hot starts

well the 07 700 is EFI..That creates more problems..It could be something wrong with the fuel pump,the computer or it could be somthing easy like you need to clean your air filter..I'b say look at the plug first and see what it looks like,It will tell you if it's running rich or lean..Also we need to know if it has any aftermarket mods..If you change things like the air filter or exhaust it will ru like crap without a EFI controller..

it is a 700r with no mods. I checked the spark plug, it was dry and black. I'm not a big atv repair man so if you can some details on how to check different things would be greatly appreciated. And nice air toddmh... I think 08's have a better front suspension than my 07?

 

My daughter also has a Raptor 80 it is a 2001,we were riding 2 weeks ago it was running good,we loaded it up to go home,the next time we went riding it would not start,I changed the plug ,cleaned the carb, checked the wiring,sprayedether in the carb,it is getting compression, it turns over but won't start up,I tried everything to start it . If you figer it out please let me know and I will do the same. John

Do you have spark? Did you open up the carb butterfly when you sprayed eather?
