660 Raptor wont start
I haven't riddin the raptor much in the last couple of years and I am trying to get it started right now. I tried cranking it and it wouldn't fire at all so I put a new plug in and drained the old fuel. After I did that, it would crank for a while and then fire for a couple of seconds. It would only fire if I had the choke on. After a couple seconds, it would quit and then I would have to crank for a while again. The battery started to run dead so I had to stop trying for the moment. Does anyone have any suggestions of what else I should try?

You said that it started with the choke on so we know that it has spark . So if its not the battery its the fuel system. If it still doesn't run right with the new battery try cleaning the carbs with carborater cleaner of brake cleaner. After that prime the carbs with starting fluid and give the battery a few extra volts and give it an try.

Ya I have a 2002 Raptor and I had all kinds of problems with my carburetor on my quad so I **** CANED it and got a Edelbrock Quicksilver carburetor and have never had a problem since. Some times it takes a bit to start but it's not that bad after the second time it kicks on after I turn the Idle up. The only other thing is if the Idle isn't turned up enough you wont be able to keep it running if it has set around for a long time. If you have road it in to the ground since you have had it. It might be time to have the top end re-done because once I had Ming done it would start up no problem. Maybe one of your carburetor needles is sticking but if you pull it apart and clean it and that doesn't help then you may want to take it in to the shop and have them check the compression on it. You can't do it your self unless you override the timing chain. Other than that I can't think of anything else but if I do I will get back to you.

I have all the plastic taken off and got side tracked so I haven't cleaned the carbs yet. would you just take the bottom bowl off and clean that part or what? where do you prime the carb with starter fluid?</end quote></div>
What I meant by that is holding the trottle open and spraying a good amount into both intake ports. Yea the carbs catch the most in the drain bowl. I would take a look at the needle jets two it could'nt hurt.
Hey do you know where you can get another key made for a quad I lost mine earlier this week and the chances of me finding them don't look to good. Help would be greatly appriciated.
