I'm in the market to buy a trail/ open field bike. Not much racing but would like to keep up with my buddies predator. I've heard good things about both bikes. Since this is in the yamaha posting, i'm leaning more toward the YFZ but I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

 

The 400EX holds an edge if your trails have a good amount of tighter, technical sections. it is also less maintenance intensive. The YFZ will blow a 400EX away in virtually any performance type category and is easily a match for the Pred. The Yammie WILL cost more maintenance wise, as it needs more frequent oil changes, air filter cleanings, valve adjustments and top end rebuilds. The good news is, as long as you keep up on the preventative maintenance stuff, the YFZ is a proven, reliable war horse.
