Exclamation Buying an 01' Raptor 660 but no paper work! FL Riders - HELP!

The guy selling it says he bought it from a friend but never doesn't have any paper work or anything. What I want to know is if there is a way of verifying the VIN and check the history of the Yamaha Raptor ATV. Also, according to the Florida State government website: http://www.flhsmv.gov/html/atv_instruct.htm#Q4

To get the Title all you would need is:
  1. ONE of the following must be submitted as proof of ownership:
    • Florida certificate of title.
    • A bill of sale (must include the year, make and vehicle identification number of the off-highway vehicle).
  2. A form HSMV 82040, Application for Certificate of Title, accurately completed by the applicant.
NOTE: If a lien is to be recorded, a lien date MUST be shown.
  3. A lien satisfaction(s), if applicable.
NOTE: If a lien is shown on the bill of sale, a lien satisfaction is applicable.
  4. Payment of sales tax.
  5. Title fees in the amount of $33.25 ($29.00 title fees & $4.25 service fee), payable to The Division of Motor Vehicles.

Anyone have any experience with this? Does the Bill of Sale have to be from the manufacturer or from the owner? ATV's are something new to me.... So any help is appreciated!

If you can have the guy go to SOS or DMV and sign over the paperwork infront of the clerk. That way you know it wasnt stolen, or at least that guy didnt steal it.

If you have a cop buddy have him run the VIN.

I hope you are getting a good deal on that raptor because the 01' raptors had several problems including a tranny problem.
