Need advise: Banshee jetting with K&N filters
#1
I am helping my neighbor get his Banshee up and running and need some advise.
It is all stock, and was running very rich. Still has original 200 mains. Yesterday we found he had the left & right carb slides swapped, so we corrected that. Now we installed the K&N filters without the air box, and moved the needle clips up one notch ( yea leaner). It was running SO rich before, we thought the clip might help, even though I knew the filters would lean it out a lot. Well, it seems like it is running REALLY lean now. It pulls hard midrange, but stalls out on deceleration and rough at low RPM. So,...
We have a Dyno Jet kit that has 270's & 280's and new needles...and have not installed it yet,.. should we need to go that high with just the filter change? Or did the clip position really make the difference? Or do we need the mess with the idle adjust screw?
He is planning on adding a pair of Toomey pipes soon, so the jet swap was already planned then.
Thanks for your experienced advise,

I know K&N sells a jet kit for use with there filter, but I would try putting the needle clip back stock position and putting 1 or 2 sizes up on the main jet, 210 or 220, and maybe try a 30 pilot jet. But why don't you just wait till he get pipes, and then mess with it, because then you won't be doing double work.

Install the jetkit and everything should be good until you put pipes on, then you will have to rejet. Are you sure the jets are 270 and 280? For some reason I thought they were like 170 and 180. But it has been a while since I have had to rejet..I will look and see what jets I am running with my stock pipes and stock airbox.
