Wants to stall in water
#11
Well this is strange, my motorcycle starting leaking fuel for no aparent reason ont he garage floor today. It is the long black hose that comes from carb that ends about where bottom of engine is. It also has a serious of other hoses that hang down there, but the one that was leaking came from carb, and was making gas air bubbles. The fuel was also off. Anyone have any ideas as to why this would occur? I started it up and rode it around some, and didn't notice any more gas coming out, but i'll check tomorrow when I go into the garage if anymore leaked.

Isn't that the overflow? Had you ridden it recently? Maybe the bowl was still full and hot weather caused the fuel to expand and flow out. Either that or the shut off isn't working and the float is stuck, Doesn't seem likely.

Last time I rode was probably 3 months ago, went for a 15 mile ride or so. I guess that is the over flow, I lust never seen that do that before since owning it. BTW when I was in the garage yesterday, it wasn't leaking anymore. Yea I hardly ride that bike, I ashould really sell it and would for the right asking price. I pay every year to register and insure it and yet 3 months ago was the first time I rode it on the streets in 2 years plus. I'll part ways with it for $3500, seeing it is in excellent condition and very low miles. I once had two people interested in it, but they couldn't come up with the funds.

the carb overflow has a one-way valve on it. that 1way is garbage. water and dirt can back up into the float bowl causing running issues. if you plan to run water, delete the 1way, put a screw in the end of the line just always make sure to turn off the gas when transporting

I found the hose that comes from bottom of carb and basically it ran toward bottom of engine in the front. I could see how going through water would affect this, so I added an extension on the hose and routed it up through handle bar area. So it sticks up a few inches above digital instrument on the handlebars, harldy noticeable too! Anway, I then went into my mud bog where the atv started sputtering last time and stalled, and that did the trick. No more sputtering and/or stalling. It was a very simple mod to do.
I'm still confused as to what that hose does. Does it suck air in? I also noticed that there is a hose coming out of rear diff that runs up into and past air filter box and basically rests up towards top of gas tank under plastic. I never went deep into any water where gas tank got submerged, so this never gave me a problem, just the carb hose.
