Default Raptor 700 Opinions

I'm thinking of trying to find a deal on a used Raptor 700. It'll be a secondary sand quad for me and a primary sand quad for my wife. It seems to me like it'd be a great quad for her... comfy suspension, decent power, etc.

I don't remember my Yamaha trivia that well, so I don't remember what year was its first. What have the various (if any) problems been, and are there some years to avoid (like 2001 Raptor 660's)?

Alternately, I've been thinking about a YFZ450, but in that case it'd have to be the 2008 orange/black version (she LOVES orange and black)... but it might be too "hardcore" for her.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Both the raptor 700 and the Yfz 450 ar good quads. Raptor 700 may have a little more power stock vs stock. But i believe the yfz has more top end.

The raptor is a very reliable quad and it has tons of power. It is good for trails and sand if you want it to be.

The yfz 450 is a very good mx bike, Perfect suspention and lots of power aswell. There is no wrong choice between the bikes.

raptor is more torque-ier lol top ends i believe are the same, friend of mine has a 660 and topped it at 85, but yfz like keljose said are pretty much race ready, but if its for trails and sand, i'd perfer the rappy, also reverse comes in handy! think about it

all years on the raptor 700 have been problem free. great quad with that make good power on basic mods. i would not be suprised if you fall in love with this quad and the power it can make and end up wanting one for yourself.

Actually you have it backwards..... the YFZ is geared very low, made for MX so top speed is only around 68-70mph while the 700 will usually hit 75 or close....

IMO I'd go with the Raptor for the wife..... the YFZ is more hardcore for sure. The Raptor is much easier to ride because it has a smooth and long power delivery. And its set up more for trails so the suspension is more plush..... And maintenance on the 700 is a lot less.

I'd go with the 700 for the wife simply because she'd be less likely to get into a bind with it. As said above you ride the YFZ all out because it's power is made in high RPM. If you let her lug down you'd get into trouble where the 700 is fine with low RPM power.

So ya, I know I'd go with the 700 because, even though the wifey can shift under pressure, she's just not as experienced.

They are pretty close. My buddy has a trx 450r with big guns exaust system and he tops out at 73 mph.

Here is a video of a top end race between a yfz 450 and a rappy 700. They are pretty much the same.

I would also go with the Raptor. Best trail/sport quad ever made - IMO. I have owned a 700 and have ridden YFZ 450's, and I didn't like the comfort on the 450 or the way the transmission is geared for trail riding. Leave the 450's to the race guys where they belong.
