Supertrapp on Kodiak
#1
Last night I installed my Supertrapp IDS2. The finish was perfect but the fit wasnt. On the mounting bracket for the muffler I had to cut two small slots into the bar for it to fit. The S-bend pipe and muffler would fit fine without the stock heat shield but with it the heat shield needed bending. It took a lot of shaping to make the s-pipe with heat shield fit good on the head pipe. I never had to bend the s-pipe, "and wouldnt have". After getting everything in place and tightend down I started out with 8 disks. Before starting I polished the muffler and put Birchwoood Casey Tru-Oil on the muffler logo to maybe help protect the paint. "I heard after a couple of washings it came off". After this I started it up. The sound was deap and throaty compared to stock muffler. I let it warm up for a min then rode it. I rode for about 5 min as it was already 9pm. After letting it cool down I inspected the plug. It was running leaner than before and that was what I had hoped for.
The only difference I could tell was in sound. I didnt notice any power gain at all. SOUNDS GREAT! I have finished shaping the adapter for the airbox I made for a K&N universal clamp on. After I get the K&N on and adjust the jets I should see some power gain. I do think it will take all 3 working together to see a difference. I am very happy with it and think its worth the money. Only time will tell how well it works and holds up.
