Thumbs up Newbie - complete

Hello: Just joined after buying my first ATV ever. It is 2002 Big Bear 400 4x4. So far I can find only two issues. (1) Rear brake not working (2) Crazy aftermarket light. I believe I can sort of the lights, but tell me, how the rear ?drum? work? Both left handle and right foot? What should I know?

Else, used buyer, so what to look for? What immeadiate maintance repaired...oil, air filter, fuel filter, cooling, etc.

Thanks, looking forward to learning on this forum. Rojo

The air filters on them are basically a peice of foam over a metal filter structure. Just have to make sure foam is clean and not getting any moisture in them. You most likely have drums in the rear, when sitting on the atv it is the right side that controls rear brake. Issues with drums would be- when they get wet, you could loose braking temporally, this is wear disc brakes come in as a better unit.

sometimes drum brakes tend to rust up or get alot of dirt/mud built up and causes issues as well.
