you could also look at 300ex. They are a little smaller than a 400ex and they may be easier to learn on. I dont know if have thought about it but you can aslo buy a dirt bike instead. There usually under $1000. I bought my 125 for 1000 three years ago and after i grew out of it i was able to sell it for $950. The choice is yours though. I say you try out a number of quads that are all diftent sizes and see what you and your parents think. I would not ride the 450 if i where you.

Yeah I was thinkin about maybe getting a dirt bike. My dad really isn't interested in me getting either though, he says we need to rent some clear till next summer before we decide if we could get one or not but he is fine if I buy one myself and maybe for Christmas use some "christmas credit" towards one. If I did get a dirt bike though, I would most likely get a yz 85 because it actually looks "sporty" and those 4-stroke ones with the rubber things that go over the fork stanchion or whatever you call them on the front shock are just plain ugly. I just don't know if I should get a 2 stroke bike for my very first machine, and not to mention I couldn't use it much on the snow like on snowy roads in the winter like I could a quad, drifting it around seems like fun.

2 stroke dirt bikes and atvs are great. They are just really fast. they have fast take of. If i where you i would stick with 4 strokes because then you dont have to mix gas. Also 2 strokes can be hard to work with, while four strokes are easier. I would try a 125 or a 250 dirt bike if i were you.

if you aren't a fan of clutches then you could consider a 250ex,400ex etc...you dont want something like a blaster cause its all clutch and thumb...... if you like clutches then a blaster would be a great choice! my blaster is fast as hell and the power is def there..... just try and save up!

Yep ok thanks, I can definatly save up 600 dollars because I have 300 dollars right now from over the summer selling corn and another 300 from selling a little rc package thing. I could probably only spend max 1200 dollars though... my mom is more comfortable me getting a dirt bike but if I got a yz 85 I could just learn how much oil and gas to mix.

A dirt bike could be good or bad depending on where you ride. if there are alot of rocks a beginner dirt bike rider will have problems.

OK the main reason I really am getting something is because my neighbor got a yfz450 09 and he will have a lot of pressure to go riding having spended so much on the thing. He said I could go riding with him anytime I want. I will probably not get a dirt bike so I can do a lot of the trails he does, on a dirt bike I may struggle on a few.

I was just on youtube watching a lot of worcs dirt bike and quad races and they both look like a ton of fun but how much harder would it be to do that kind of stuff on a say yz 85 sirt bike or 01 yamaha warrior 350 or even a 300ex? I know they would have less power but I don't think I really need a ton of power like that.
