Default 88 warrior vs. brand new '07 400ex - should I buy the ex?

Hey guys,

long story short - I love my warrior, but want a more modern bike (suspension, etc.) and a little more power. Was thinking the 660 or 700...but thought that may be too much for me.

Anyhow..For some reason, several Honda dealers have some brand new '07 400ex machines they are trying to unload. A local dealer has one and is asking $3,699 for it. I am thinking about going over and seeing what kind of deal I can get.

Before I pull the trigger - what do you guys think? I know the 'warrior vs. 300/400 ex debate' has been on here before, and I have read those threads, but they seem to be mostly talking about the pre '05 400ex bikes. So keep in mind I am talking about an '88 warrior vs. a NEW '07 400ex. FYI - I never drag etc. I only trail ride.

I guess what I am trying to say is - I know I will love the updated 'ergonomics' of the 400ex. I just want to make sure I won't be dissappointed that its no more powerful than my warrior. And yes, I would pipe/jet the 400ex just like I did my warrior.

Any 400EX is a step up from the Warrior as a base machine.

I say that having owned BOTH.

Do go for the '05 plus 400EX though.... for the addition of REVERSE.

Don't be "skerd" of the other bikes either, as they are not really too much.
And they are a step up from the 400EX.

However, for the price of these that have not been selling... ****** up a 400EX.
(Provided you can't find a similar deal on a hotter bike)

You won't regret the move from an 88 Warrior to an 07 EX for $3,699.

If you have the money then buy the 400ex. I think it would be time to upgrade from the warrior. Also see if you can get an even better deal on the honda when you go to the dealer they may take some more money off considering that they have had it for well over a year.

In my opinion if you have the money buy a trx 450r Its more of a stop up from the warrior

But $3,699 for NEW?

That's used price already.

I bet you can find hundreds of used '07 models on there asking more than that.

He's a trail rider and will probably be happier with a trail bike like the 400cc class or 700cc class.

Update - I went and looked at the 400ex. I told them I was not ready to buy just yet, so they didn't really try to negotiate a deal. They offered at the 3699 price + tax and dealer doc fee, but waived the 'assembly/prep fee'. So the OTD price was ~$4212. On the way out the sales guy said the 'head honcho' would probably offer a better deal when he felt I was ready to buy.

And yes, I am trail rider so the 450r is not for me... Although that had an '06 450r NEW on the floor for 3899! That was one of the first things the sales guy told me "for $200 more you can get a 450r!" I got a little excited at first, but then realized its the 'race' quad like the YFZ450 and not suited for my needs. So someone else is about to get a smokin' deal on that one!!

Was that 450R black?

Think I went to the same dealer back at the first of the year.
I'd be surprised if there is many more '06 models in the country unsold.
