Default 05 kodiak HELP

Ok, got a problem. Just bought a used kodiak 450 that has been abused but got it CHEAP (at least i think so). Redone brakes, added air filter, changed diff. oil new spark plug, pressure washed it for 2 hours, and just gave it, prob., its 2nd oil change. got 1023 miles but im not kidding it has been abused.

PROBLEM found gold colored chuncks in the oil plug when I drained it. I understand that this is bad but how bad? What could it be? Main bearing? Didn't have a air filter in it.

Engine runs good. Cranks as soon as I hit the starter. Should I run it till something gets bad or do I tear into it now?

PLEASE HELP! I would like to keep it for awhile, I'm good with tools, but never had a ATV.

p.s. I gave $1250 for it if that helps in your opinion.

May not have a fuel filter, you can buy one at the parts store and put it in the fuel line to the carb , as for the chunks, If it sounds and runs alright I would ride it and watch it, check the oil level often, ride it a 100 or so miles and change oil again, if there are more chuncks on the magnetic plug it probably has something coming apart.

i have a 05 kodiak also and the fuel filter is in the tank. there is actually two. you have to take off the right side plastics and where the fuel control valve there is two screws holding it to the tank take thoes screws out and the filters are right on top. i would suggest taking the tank off though. as for the chunks in your oil it could just be tips of the teeth in your trans. were they in the strainer or by the plug?
