Looks like you and I are doing the same thing! I picked up an old YFM225s a month ago. I have it torn down and found a bearing was out in the sub-transmission. I am waiting for a replacement gear to arrive from Canada. Love reading about your project. I have the manuals and documents you are looking for. Send me an email and I will send them over to you. You can also follow my rebuild on 86 YFM225s restoration

The Wiseco has a good name behind it. The Wiseco looks like a higher compression piston. (10.25:1)
The other I couldn't find a brand name for it at all.
With the Wiseco you know it will last. No name brand could have a hole burnt thru it or snap at any given time.
Not to say it will, but that's the risk when buying unknown.

I've used JE pistons a few times with no problems and usually a bit cheaper than Wiseco. Athena is a good brand but prices closer to Wiseco.

Yes the motor oil is your tranny fluid also. My moto 4 had stiff shifting ,and when I switched over to Synthetic oil it shifted much smoother.
