CDI Unit
#1
Re: 2001 Big Bear
I have been having an issue where as soon as I turn the key on it blows the 20a fuse in the starter relay. I have finally isolated it as a short in the ground wire and have corrected.
Now the problem is that it still will not start. I finally took it in to the repair shop and they are saying it is the CDI unit. Would the short cause the CDI unit to malfunction? Also, can I fix without new unit or where could I find a cheaper alternative to what most Yamaha dealers charge ($300-$400).

Hunt down a used CDI from ebay or some bike salvage place. Heck even on the atv forums you should be able to find someone parting out a similar machine who would let the cdi go for cheap. Its what I would do anyway. Good luck
