2001 Yamaha YMF250XN

I have owned this machine since new and it has been one of the most trouble free machines I own. Yesterday I got on it and the battery was dead, so I pull started it. It started right up and I let it idle awhile, then got on it to ride off. When I pressed the throttle lever it died like I had turned the key off and would not restart. The gas tank is full with good gas. I pulled on it for a while then tried removing the spark plug and pulled it over. There is no spark. The switches are all in the right position and I checked all the external wireing for loose plugs or connections. Everything looks O.K., but still no spark. I located the hi-voltage coil under the gas tank and checked the connections on it and they all look good. What type of ignition does it use. Points, solid state sensor, etc. and where are they located. Can you check the hi-voltage coil with an ohm meter for continuity. Thanks, Bob.
