Get you a compression gauge and put it in the spark plug spot and kick it over till the guage stops going up. But you will have to look up what it should be for that bike. I cant remember but Im thinking about the 120 mark. Then check the frame over really good for cracks, check the brakes, tires, rims, swing arm bearing (itll have to be on a crate to do that), check the oil, coolant, and so on.

Ride is slow and go through all the gears and make sure they go into it smoothly, then romp on it to see if it bogges down or smokes excessivly. Also make sure coolant is not comming out of the exhaust.

Okay just googled it and it should be 125-150 for compression. The manual calls for new rings every 7 hrs, new piston and rings every 20. So already you need a new top end. Go here and sign in and you can view the service manual. Hope this helps

GEEZ, every 7/20 hours??????!!!!!!! Who has the time and money to do all of that on a trail bike? When I was growing up, my dirtbikes were lucky to get new rings every 7 MONTHS! Back then we would ride 7 hours a day every Sunday.
