I am thinking of getting either 25" or 26" bearclaws or 589's and I am wondering if the extra weight and price of a slightly bigger tire is worth the 1/2" of ground clearance and the loss of acceleration. I noticed that the 26" 589's are significantly wider than the 25's but when you go to 27" the price jumps up like $20 a tire for the same width as the 26" ? Are there other things to consider that I am missing? I have a Grizzly and ride trails, snow and mud. I want all around performance and the 589's look really cool but I would imagine they are heavier than the bearclaws.

Thanks for any input.

Not sure about the 589's but with a grizz I wouldn't be afraid of loss in power with 26" tires especially 25". I run 25" in my wolv. with performance pipe etc. and it kicks butt. the 589's, are they the titans that you find on the Polaris's. Just wondering because I think thats what your talking about. If so, go with the Bearclaws, you won't be disappointed..

Yes, the Titan 589's are the ones. They don't actually come on stock Polaris, do they? Thats a heck of a better deal than the crappy Dunlops I got on my Grizz... Oh well.

Yup, thats what comes on Polaris's. Your right about them dam Dunlop's. I love my Bear Claws though. They make my bike alot taller and meaner looking. Check it out with the link below. Copy and paste it into the address/location bar...

I run 28" ITP Blackwater XT's on my Grizz. Not a very noticable loss of power. Great for breaking trails. Look Good too.
Top end suffered terribly. My buddy has a Grizz with stock Dunflats tires. We raced them from a dead stop on a frozen, snow covered pond. We were even off the start. He pulled away.
I could only get top speed 30 mph, He could get 40mph and he's 100lbs heavier. I don't know how it would be on hard packed dirt road.

Next is a Jet kit, clutch kit and a front locker... BRING ON THE MUD!!

I beleive the tire that come on the polaris models is the 489 not the 589. My cousin has a '00 Kodiak with 27 inch 589's on it. He said there was only about a 3 pound difference between the stock's and the 589's. The only problem I have seen with the 589's is that when going through the deep snow the tire digs to the bottom to find traction instead of going on top, I really would'nt worry though if you have a grizzly. The Bearclaws are also a nice tire, but I personally would stick with the 589's

489's are stock on polaris and arctic cats. 589's are not stock. I want a set of 589's for my 500 cat. I've seen them in action and they are way cool. The weight difference is not that much I think their 30 lbs for the 27" version. Your stock tires are close to 18-20 lbs each. Aluminum wheels would make up the difference probably. They also have a center tread so they ride well on hard stuff and at slower speeds. Hope this helps some.

desparado,
If your looking for a 26" tire in the Titan 589 family, go with the 27". I have a set of Titan 27" 589's on my Grizzly. I have been VERY impressed with their performance in all areas of riding. However, they are not true to size, and the 27" Titans only net out at 26 1/8" in over all height. Thats with 7lbs of air and mounted on the Grizz. As far as performance loss goes, don't worry about it. It actually seems to jump off the line and accelerate even faster then with the stock tires. But you will loose some top speed, and high speed acceleration. But for me that doesn't mean a thing! I spend most of my time in the lower RPM's so there wasn't any loss of performance at all!

Rick
PS. The extra 1/2" of ground clearence will make a difference, and you'll notice it! You wouldn't think so, but it does.

I actually don't mind if the 26" measures up to a little over 25" but the main problem I have with the 27" 589's is that it jumps way up in price ($20 more per tire over the 26") and its the same width as the 26" and I would imagine they are similiar in tread depth. Has anyone actually seen a 589 26" next to a 589 27" for comparison? Just seems a little disproportionate along the pricing...

My main reason for wanting to replace my Grizzlys Dunlops is that I got a flat first time out. Brand new! I can honestly say that I have never had any problems with clearance with the 25's but I have gotten stuck a few times. Those Dunlops should read "For Showroom Use ONLY!"

They look the same as far as tread depth and pattern, just about an inch shorter depending on how much air you put in them. They are great tires!!
