Question 03 Kodiak won't start ...help

I have 2003 400 Kodiak that won't start . When I try to start it ; it makes a clicking noise under the seat but it doesn't turn over at all . I checked the fuses on the relay thing that was making the clicking noise and they where ok. Fuel is good and I charged the battery as well. The wench won't work as I have tried to put my snow blade down and I makes a noise up in front area too but nothing else happens . Any ideas ?

I agree with wheily. Check and make sure the connections are clean & tight. Sounds like a dead cell in the battery, I had the same problem with my lawnmower earlier today. You can test where the battery connection cable at the solenoid and from the solenoid to the starter. Also the winch pulls alot of battery juice.

use the pull cord to start it. If it does not work, disconect the batery and try the pull cord again. If it does not work then the issue is not your battery.

I'm going to guess that it will start with the pull cord. Then your problem is either your battery or your connection to your battery, (corrosion etc.).

yep... it started with the pull cord but when I tried to use the wench to lift the snowblade it stalled out . I am going to go buy a new battery and go from there . If that doesn't work I will be sure to let you'all know !
Thanks for all the help !

The fact that it stalled when you went to use the winch concerns me. Did this happen when the old battery was connected or disconnected from the bike? Would is still stall while activating the winch if you gave the bike some throttle at the same time? I ask becuase once the bike is running, an electrical draw should not cause it to stall (unless it is really something over the top). That said, the dynamo, (for some reason i cannot think of the actual name for this thing right now), could be your issue.

The reason i ask about whether the old battery was still connected is that if there was some problem with it, aside from simply being dead, it could create the condition you describe without having a problem with the dynamo thingy.

I would definitely replace that battery just to remove that diagnostically from the picture as it is a lot less expensive than the dynamo.

What is that thing called!!?? not an alternator... not a dynamo..

i think these post are correct, however if you have a battery charger with a start mode you can hook that up to battery and try start or winch. if it is a battery problem you should be able to start or run the winch with no problem. check ground wire from battery to frame or motor where ever it connects to quad to make sure that connection is tight also.
