Just picked up my new Kodiak last night. I do have one problem with it though. I can't seem to get this damn grin off my face . The power, the automatic, the engine braking, the 4x4, etc. has exceded my hopes of what I was buying. Thanks to everyone who gave me their opinions about and experiences with, the Kodiaks. It helped me commit to buying a machine that I think is going to give me years of great service. I only got to do some yard riding (couple of acres) and a little bit of woods riding, but so far I'm very happy with it. Hope to get out this weekend and play some more .

Do yourself a favor, and order a set of EBC brake pads now, so you'll have them on hand. It's phenominal how fast your rear pads will wear. Hosing down the rear caliper after each ride will help a little.

Quadfather,
As you can tell, I'm new to this ATV thing. Are the EBC pads something that the Yamaha dealer can get or is this an aftermarket item. If so, where do I get them. I read alot of post about the rear pads wearing out in no time, but that seems to be the only negative thing I see about the Kodiaks.

Good luck and enjoy your new ride. Check your lug nuts-some of mine worked loose after the first couple times I rode.
Catch you later

I got EBC's from Hotseatperformance.com for a good price...
Keep us informed on how you like the Kodiak, I'll get test driving one in the next month...

I got my EBCs from either Dennis Kirk, or Rocky Mt. ATV. Your local Yammy dealer might have them. Just don't let him talk you into another set from Yammy.

welcome to the kodiak family. you won't regret your purchase.i was talking to a coworker of mine who owns a grizzly, and he says he wished he would have bought the kodiak instead. that just goes to show you that the biggest isn't always the best. enjoy your new best friend.

Congrats on the new Kodiak. You made the right choice. I rode mine for almost a year and liked it so much my family all pitched in and bought my dad one for xmas. Sunday will be our first real ride together and it should be a muddy blast as well as a little competition as it will be Father,Son,and Grandson all on Yamahas.

Thanks for the tips HillHound and Boghammer. Went to go out riding today on a friends property. Before I loaded up, I checked all the fluids only to find both front and rear diffs low on gear lube. Only rode 4 miles since dealer prep. (Wonder what else they didn't check?). At that point I decided I had to pull the front rack to get to the radiator to check the fluid level. Figured as hard as it was to get to, they probably didn't check it either. Turns out it was good (better safe than sorry). Checked lugs nuts, sure enough, had three or four that was pretty loose. Decided at that point just to give everything the once over, rack bolts, etc. Only found a few more things that were loose. Finally got out riding and had a great day. The machine has turned out to be great. Got to do some tight woods riding. Man, that machine will cut through the woods nice, good turning radius!!. Did a little muddy hill climbing, great power, great traction. The engine braking feature works great. Was going down a long, steep, muddy, rocky gas well road and decided to gear down into low range and let the engine braking feature do its job. It worked so well about half way down the hill I stopped and bumped it back into high range because I was tired of creeping down the hill. I was real pleased with the ride as well, very stable, didn't feel like I was getting beat up, not a fight to drive. I sort of hope we get some of that big snow storm they're talking about. would like to try this baby out in the snow.
