Default 04 Yamaha Bruin 350 Battery

Hi I was messing around with my bruin yesterday, I jump started it for the first time since early december. I need a new battery, but I took the battery out, put the key in, and tryed to pull start it and it worked. Is this normal? Is it okay to run with no battery? Any help greatly appreciated...

I think that is normal. Before you buy a new battery fill it up with water and charge it for atleast 15 hours. I had a dead battery that i charged for about 4 hours and it was still dead. I forgot about it and left the charger on there for another 10 or 11 hours and it finaly took a charge. Maybe you we be lucky like me and not have to buy a new battery.

Okay, cool. Mine will run with no battery even hooked up, the lights and everything flicker but it runs. I probably shouldn't do that should i?

Your electrical system was set up to both run lights and charge a battery at the same time,in some systems, the battery acts like a "regulator", soaking up the excess output and using it to keep fully charged. Will it hurt anything to run without?probably not, but why take the chance. Without the battery, the regulator may not be able to keep voltage surges from possibly blowing out lights,or even ignition components. I know my buddy had an older Polaris, you had to make sure all the lights were working, or it would blow every one of them, must have been series wired and used the load of the lights to balance the output of the stator, every time he lost one light, if he didnt replace it, very soon all the lights would burn out. A cheap Walmart battery is better than nothing at all, or worse, damaged electrical system.

Thank you. I figured it probably be best to get a battery. Just wanted other opinions.
