Default Clicking Noise after attaching battery???

Hello,

I have a pretty basic question, I hope lol. I have an 01 Warrior, and since I rarely use it (It sits in a second home 3 hrs away) I always remove the battery, so I can charge it occasionally so I don't need to replace the battery. Anyway, when I hooked a freshly charged battery to my bike, I noticed as soon as I hit the starter button I heard clicking noise from the battery. I though it was weird, so I unhooked the battery, and put back on it, and it started, so I brushed it off.

On to today, was looking at an 01 Kodiak for sale. Owner said battery was replaced a month or to ago with a new one. We we're having a difficult time starting it, and when looking at the bike, the ground was loose. After tightening, it was good, but a couple times we got that clicking sound, exactly what was happening to my warrior. I'm just wondering what is that noise from? Needless to say I didn't buy the Kodiak, it had other issues, but the owner didn't know much about the bike originally had it for $550 lol, but anyway I want to know for in the future with my Warrior. Is it my starter going bad, or my solenoid? I'm thinking I should ask the local Yamaha dealership to test, and recharge my battery, I just don't want them screwing me into thinking I need a new one if I don't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also while we're on the battery topic, what is the correct order to connect/disconnect the battery? Or does it matter? I always connect the battery with the + positive terminal first, followed by the - negative terminal. When I remove it, I do the reverse, - negative terminal first, than + positive terminal.

I connect the red last and disconnect it 1st.

Was the clicking very fast? That just means the battery is low or the terminal isnt tight.
