mtecate4g,
You hit it, right on the nose! After you e-mailed me about this same topic, about 6-7 weeks ago. I quit using reverse and the problem went away.

The problem I was experiencing, was when shifting at full throttle, from 1st into 2nd, it would jump into neutral about 1/2 the time.

Since not using reverse, I haven't experienced that problem at all, not even once.

My guess here, is that the spring that is used to go back into first, after using reverse, is not strong enough. It is not pulling hard enough to get fully into first, probably only catching the tooth ends of the gear. Therefore, after hitting neutral a million times and or grinding gears, the gears are then wearing or breaking. Then the tranny is getting caught or stuck in one gear.

Personally, I think mtecate4g is absolutely correct!!!! GOOD THINKING

SO, when is Yammi going to solve this problem? OR does anyone have a way of finding out what this spring (or device) looks like. Allowing us (the people who spent all the money) to fiquire out a way to FIX this.

Anyone?

False neutrals (going into neutral between upper gears) are pretty common. My Banshee did it a lot, my GSXR 750 did it, my R1 occasionally does it as well. I find that it happens more often if I am not shifting firmly enough. Use a little oomph on that shifter to ensure that the gears are properly meshed. It may turn out to be a design problem. I hope not. I have not had this problem with my Raptor yet.

What in the world are you guys doing to your quads?!
Yamaha builds really strong motors, usually it's just a chassis problem that yamie has(goofy airboxes, bent axels & A-arms etc.).
I don't mean to be rude, but I'm finding it hard to believe that these Raptors are having that many problems on their own. Some of you must be really hard on your quads.

I sent my 2nd into the land of OZ this weekend.
It is in the shop today, with 3 days left on the warranty. The shop sez it is caused by reverse not re-engaging all the way,so second is only riding on half a gear. I was shunned by my peers because I miss shifted about 10 times that day,now I know why... They say it will be may before they get parts.....hope not.
Are you having better luck.

Knock on blue plastic I haven't had any problems that any of these people have spoke about. I have had some bumbs that I thought oh sh*t I KNOW I JUST BROKE something. And then I check it out and I didnt. The only thing I can say bad is that the reverse sucks it is geared toooo high.

The time situation is about the same here. It will have been in the shop 2 weeks this Saturday and they say about another month before the parts come, so I sent the head off for a little work since it appears that I will have some time to kill. I'm not sure that reverse caused the problem for me, they are replacing all of the gears and after seeing the probs others are having I am considering that extended warranty...
