**New Banshee Owner Questions**
#1
I just purchased a 99' Banshee in perfect condition with FMF Fatty pipes, power core silencers, Twish throttle conversion, Dg Grab Bar, DG front bumper, and DG Nerf bars.
Questions are
1) Does the Boost bottles do anything?
2) The TORS system was removed **Good** Bad**?
3) Any idea how much they shave the head on a mild performance job ??
4) I plan on droping the front down one tooth (13 tooth)any comments??
5) Any tire recommendations?? Looking for a good all around tires with around 2" more height.
Thanks Chris

Good Buy!
(1) As for the head, I just had mine shaved .040 thousandths and it did make a difference.
(2) Removal of TORS is a good thing...
(3) I have went to a 13 tooth sprocket, go for it.
(4) I run some holeshots, they are pretty nice.
(5) I installed a boost bottle as part of a kit, dont know if it made a difference, but can it hurt?
One more thing I would do is replace the stock air filter setup with a Pro Design Pro FLow intake with a K&N w/outerwear or Unifilter. The stock setup is infamous for ripping and letting dirt into the motor. When I was installing my pipes on my 99 banshee i had some sand in the carbs, suffice to say, I did not start it again without the pro design and K&N. Check this link, it shows a Horsepower increase of 4.7 just with the Pro Flow and K&N

1)The boost bottle...I don't know about it. It's supposed to add throttle response.
2)Taking off the TORS is goo as long as you have a kill switch. I didn't have one...and last week the engine would revv stupidly...I imagined what would have happened if I fell...the shee alone in the woods. oops. Kill switch.
3)0.040" is a good cut. I have heard about .075, but it seems a lot.
4)If you drop 1 tooth of the front sprocket, you will need more gear changes...your choice.
5)Holeshots/Razrs are good (I've been told, planning on putting 20" Razrs pretty soon).

Boost bottle is supposed ot help bottom end power, Dont know if they work. I wouldnt waste the money on them, there is lots of better stuff to buy, Like a k&n powerkit. Tires - Maxis razr 6plys, Almost puncture proof, good traction. Holeshots are good, but razrs are cheaper and stronger. Ditching the tors is alright if you have a teather type kill switch. I havent shaved my head yet, but from what I hear you can go to .030" without running race gas, Not sure but i think its about 170lbs compression before race gas is needed.

I also shaved my head .040" and noticed a considerable difference, mostly on low-end.
I put boost bottles on and didn't notice any difference at all. I took them off and sold them.
I installed a K&N filter and re-jetted, noticed more power all through the r.p.m. range.
Believe it or not, I have 22" Wooley Boogers on mine at the moment. I didn't like the way the holeshots did in mud and snow, so I borrowed the Boogers from a buddy. I havn't gotten around to changing them back yet. I actually think they grip better than the holeshots on all surfaces, but they don't handle nearly as well (they are a round tire; they like to slide sideways with the slightest turn of the handlebars.)

I just bought a 2000 Banshee this week. I had a 400EX all last summer, i have to say that the Banshee is a different animal.
Toomey Racings website has a bit to say about boost bottles, they supposedly don't work. I don't know myself.
I was wondering about a couple things myself.
1) Should you spend the extra to get Yamalube?
2) How come the plugs in Banshees fould so often, is it only if they are tuned wrong/wrong mix??
3) Any tips for a new owner as far as maintenance, I'm new to the two-stroke world, and I like the feel of it so far.
I ordered nerfs and a DG bumper, next is the toomey pipes, jet and filter kit.
Thanks for any tips and comment.

1) Does the Boost bottles do anything?
Popular opinion says NO. Take the 30 bucks and buy reeds or better filter.
2) The TORS system was removed **Good** Bad**?
Good. It will only cause you grief.
3) Any idea how much they shave the head on a mild performance job ??
40 thous seems to be safe as others mentioned.
4) I plan on droping the front down one tooth (13 tooth)any comments??
Depends. The Banshee will pull taller gearing if you want to go 80+ MPH. With pipes on level ground the 14 tooth w/stock 20" tires seems to need another gear higher. In the sand 13 tooth is needed to be able to realisticaly use 6th gear. If you go to a 22" tire a 13 tooth will get you back close to stock gearing. Bear in mind a 13 tooth will wear the chain roller around the swingarm pivot bolt MUCH faster; get a slider. A 13 tooth with 20" tires will limit your top speed by several MPH. Your choice; depends on what riding you do.
5) Any tire recommendations?? Looking for a good all around tires with around 2" more height.
No experience here...
Have fun with your Banshee and ride safe!
