Is yamaha going to upgrade the Wolverine to compete with the likes of the Scrambler . Could'nt they beef up the wolverine and put the raptor motor in it and a 2and4 wheel button option.I gave up my wolverine when the scranbler came out and upto now theres no competition as the wolverine leans abit more to utility than the scrambler I really hope Yamaha does something , as there the only other sport quad builder.
If anybody knows of anything thats on its way?.

I guess not that many people are interested in a sport 4x4 matt. I brought that up in the Honda forum a while back and got quite a few derogatory answers. (not all, but quite a few). Yeah, that would be a mean quad with a Raptor motor and 4x4.

I feel like my Scram is close to being a Sport 4x4 but not quite. It needs to be lighter, w/ a better steering stem and.......oh I could go on for a while but won't.....will save it for the Polaris forum. hehehehe

Regards,

MrMan

I wish some company would have the brains to come out with something better than a Scambler or a Wolverine. The perfect ATV for me would be if the Sportsman went on a major diet, lost its racks, and a little better front suspension. I agree that a Wolerine with a Raptor engine and some good shocks would be one bad a** ATV.

I agree with you that the Wolverine could stand a little updating, though I hope it doesn't lose its utility abilities. That is the main reason I have a Wolverine and not a Scrambler. I can't afford to have two quads, and there is NOTHING out there that is as good an all-round performer as the Wolverine. But, if Yamaha would make a quad that could compete with the Scrambler and still be a good working machine, while weighing the same as the current Wolverine, they would sell a ton of them. I was considering trading my quad in a something else, but I've decided to tweak it a little until Yamaha (or someone else)offers me a better Wolverine.

It still amazes me though, that Yamaha builds a 2-valve, air-cooled 350 that runs very competitivly with everyone elses 500, 4-valve liquids, AND they manage to maintain bulletproof reliability.

Guys.... In my opinion, I think the reason there is no better sport 4x4 is cost.
It would be great to have a 4 by that would go fast...jump well and be rock solid. The wolverine is close...But look at the money you have to spend on one to get it reliable enough to tackle the conditions that sport riders want. (jumping, whoops, etc.)
Weight is always a factor. CV joints...shafts....electric starters..ripping boots... smogged down engines...batteries. The list goes on and on.
It's not impossible...I've seen some mean wolverines. But the guys still have front end troubles from trying to jump.
When they do come out with something light and 4x4, I will buy one....I mean work around the yard then go to the track without switching bikes. That would be great.

Yes. You got it. The best machine would be a lightweight SP. An IRS sport quad, in other terms. Who's coming with it? I'm afraid we'll have to wait...a lot before they come out with it.

fmf,
what do you mean by front end troubles when jumping? Just curious.

Zorro:

I have a good friend with a wolverine....I really like it. He has spent the money to make it go faster (pipe and mild engine mods)....But he cannot keep from wrecking the front wheel drive portion of the bike.(seems he always has it in the shop to repair alot of clunking noises and engine leaks) It Seems to be nose heavy. Alot of bent arms and ripped boots. If you take off the racks it gets better.
Like I said...it's not impossible. If he spent the money on better suspension, that might help too. But for the money..He even admits. It's way too hard to make a bullet proof 4x4 for all conditions.
I've seen some really worked up wolverines in the mags...they look great. But then add up the figures. Thats what scares everyone away.
Then factor in the weight. You do not want to hit nose first into a jump with all that weight behind you. It does break stuff. It was funny to see me pull him home one day on a banshee. I would have thought it would be the other way around. (he has saved me in the mud before). I guess it's all preference. For me...Not worth it. But thats my riding style...For someone else, working up a 4x4 might be an option.
I have to get a little giggle out of the people that want more top end out of things like grizzly's and larger utilities. Stock for stock, they just were not designed for that. Posts like...."how do I wheely my 600+ pound belt driven 4x4".... get my drift?. I Know how much fun jumping and wheelies are. But if a manufacturer designed a single bike for all occasions...they would loose money on the 10 different bikes they produce for the 10 different conditions they were designed for.
