Default 2005 kodiak 450 stays in low range

Hi folks

does any one know the solution to my problem above? The indicator lights work for every gear and the shifter will move through all of the gear locations no sweat, plus the linkage is nice and tight. The machine does not go into high range when the lever is in the high position (top speed is a little over 15mph). Everything else seems to be fine (no grinding going on or anything like that).

Any ideas?

Check your clutch weights, they may need lubing or replacement.

Thanks Hefty Lefty,
you were spot on. My son in law drowned the quad in some muddy water and the clutch was full of mud. Cleaned, regreased and it is good as new again.

Glad I guessed right, hope you washed the belt well and let it air dry, and inspected the clutch faces for scoring. Dirt and grit in both can kill them.
