Default Winch Question

I have a 2007 Big Bear with a Warn 1500 winch. The winch retracks but does not spool out. From what I've seen this could be the contactor but given they want about $100 for a replacement I'm contemplating just replacing it since the free spool lever is broken off as well. My question is can I install a ProMark winch using the existing mounting plate or do I need a new one?

Most of the Promark, Viper, etc are just old Warn models.. so the chance it will fit are pretty good

The bolt patterns are likely the same, flip the wires on the winch to see if it runs the other direction, contactors are cheap on ebay, @ $30

Does it have to be specific for a 1500 or can I use one from a 2000 or 2500

I'd bet they are all the same. If they are different, one for a bigger winch would have a higher amperage rating which would mean it will last your winch longer because it is not being used as hard.

it's most likely the solenoid block- it's common. you can buy a new one on ebay for $20.
