Thanks for the reply Doc, Yeah I agree with yas soounds like it is time to dig a little deeper.
If I can ever finish the tilework in this bathroom remodel I will began to take it apart and have a looksy.

OK I finally got around to pulling the top end off the Kodiak to see why oil was getting into the crankcase and the news is NOT GOOD. 3 hairline cracks in the head. OUCH. Piston, cylinder look good almost like this bike hasnt been ridden much. I guess I know why now.
I have pics and will post them up tomorrow.
Taking the head to the best machinist in town tomorrow and see what he says ...
Anybody have a "non cracked" head for a 2000 - 2006 Kodiak 400 laying around ??????
