Do you plan on taking off in second gear??? 11f X 40r X 18" seems really low

Last year I went and couldn't get out of 2nd gear about the mid range of 2nd I was starting to catching them but the race was over. From a old drag racer,

Gearing is hard to predict in your situation. If you knew the rpm you engine was at at the finish line you could calculate where you need to start.
In your case you will have to buy say a 9 and 11 for the front and perhaps a 42 for the rear.

You presently have a 3.08 to 1 reduction in gears
11/40 would give you 3.66 to 1
9/40 would give you 4.44
11/42 = 3.82
9/42= 4.67

Then pick what you want to try first and go test it on a 275ft track
Depending on the dirt and therefore the traction available you may still find something that works good at home or in todays air is still not bang on at the race

Also please don't double post the same topic.
