86 moto 4 starter problem
#1
on my newly bought 1986 moto 4 250, when you push the electronic start button, the starter goes. The problem is that the starter does not engage anything. What could be the problem and how can i fix it? Do I have to pop the case apart to see it?

I noticed another one of your threads you posted about the transmission. A locked up transmission will cause the starter to work but not crank the engine.
DO NOT WEAR DOWN THE BATTERY. Eventually will cause issues and make ya have to buy a new starter motor and battery if you keep using the eltetrical start.
My question is, Does it run and can you shift the gears?

I'm not sure, and don't have any experience with them, but some if not all Yamaha's with electric start have a one-way-clutch that engages the starter to the engine. Maybe the one-way-clutch could be the problem? Just throwing it out there.
