Fastest 4x4 utility quad
#11
Hey guys~
The fastest Utility machine available now is the 400 Explorer. Period. Faster than the Sportsman500HO, Grizzly, and Rubicon. Key word in that first sentence though is "NOW". If that 650 Prairie obeys the laws of physics, it will be the fastest machine available. Sure, the Scrambler is faster than the Explorer, but I wouldn't consider it a true utility machine. Also, here's another reason the 400 Explorer would be a good choice for somebody wanting speed: It has the same engine as the 400 Scrambler, meaning you could have a 70 HP utility quad! Wouldn't it be nice to blow away Banshees and raptors in a drag race, and keep up with anything in the mud!??

hey
I Agree With MrMan. I also wanted to know are you buying the quad for working as a 4x4 like hauling loads of wood across the country or hunting moose or do you use it for lighter work and want a fast 4x4 that can still do most normal work with no problem. if it is real heavy then get a SP500 HO or prarie or somthin like that but if it's lighter work then the xplorer or the Wolverine are both great ATVs. The advantage of the xplorer over the Scrambler 400 is standard(tow hitch, Racks, Speedo) and the xplorer has a High and Low (mostly for towing but can come in handy) gear. the Scrambler is only High, Nutral + reverse. I am in no way dissing the Scrambler When I bought my Wolv. I almost bought a 400 Scram.
My friend has an Explorer and it is great. the 2 stroke engine is great and it isn't a heavy ride. It does have a chain drive in the rear though, which means you have to lube the chain on a regular baisis and it is more vonurable.
I have a Wolverine and am quite Happy with it. It comes standard with racks, is semi-auto, has full time 4x4 (not as good as the polaris 4x4 sys in my opinion), no tow hitch(it's an option) and is shaft drive front and rear. It doesn't have a 4x4 to 2x4 switch but the Highlifter company (highlifter.com) should soon have there new product (the Detroit Un-Locker) made for the Wolverine. it alows you to switch on the fly.
I don't know a whole lot personally about the scram. I've heard good things about it

Hey guy's,
Thanks for the input.
I will be using this quad on trails and farm fields. Some minor mud holes. I have a kodiak to do all my grunt work. I just wanted something sporty and fast, but still have some racks on it to carry gas, and water. My other question would be... How could a wolverine keep up with a scrambler. 350cc high gearing and a 500cc high gearing? Does anyone know what the 650 Vtwin price will be. I guess will have to pay MSRP.
Thanks

Isn't it pretty cool, How the wolverine (350) is always mentioned as a contender against all these other quads. These other quads always being bigger. I know that the kaw 650 has some great features, technology is advancing in the atv market. Polaris also has some of the strongest, fastest running quads, lets not leave out honda's machines and suzuki's..they all run good, but you can always bet that the wolverine 350 will be in the middle of the 450-500-650 pack running in the woods....

The Wolverine is longer and narrower than the Scrambler which accounts for its excellent performance in tight trails. That is what guys who ride the Wolverine tell me. I haven't ridden one yet.
On a straightaway, you will see the difference in power between the 350 & 500. The Scram is a good bit faster. On the trails, it is a toss-up and depends more on the skill of the rider than the bike IMO.
They say the Prairie 650 is supposed to weigh the same as the Explorer (around 600+lbs.) This could be a contender for the crown.
