Default axle not sliding all the way thru

i replaced axle bearings on yamaha timberwolf. i am trying to put the axle in and it only goes so far to where i dont have enough threads to put on castle nut completley. I managed to get the castle nut on. should i hit it the the impact wrench and get it to pull axle thru or should i tap the opposite end of axle to maybe go a little further. i have never done this so really need help. id hate to ruin axle. any help is appreciated. thanks

When you say castle nut are you talking about the large nut in the center of the axle or the smaller nuts at the ends that hold on the wheel hubs. I don’t think the large nut in the center has the castle notches in it.
Assuming you are talking about the large nut near the barring carrier I would advise you to tap the opposite end with a rubber mallet or a board and a standard hammer. But I’m not crystal clear on what is going on. Can you post a picture?
