Default Cooling Fan not coming on while switch is on, but comes on with switch off?

OK, so I got my used Wolverine out today. The overheating light came on, but the fan never was running with the switch on. When I cut the switch off the fan came on are ran until it cooled. It did this a few different times while riding today. I have tested the fan with 12 volts and it works. We were riding through pretty rough stuff while going pretty slow, so I don't doubt it was getting hot, so I believe the warning light was correct it was overheating. So what would not cause the fan to come on while the ATV is running? As soon as I cut the switch off the fan immediatley cuts on until it cools to an excepatable temp, but doesn't run at all while the switch is on.

Sounds like there is something screwy with the wiring, maybe something grounding out. Id check around some of your wires.

Turns out the main switch was the problem. I changed it a few weeks back and the vender sent the wrong one. Ended up pulling the tumbles out of the new switch and putting them in the old switch. Runs like NEW!
