Default Yamaha Big Bear 400 IRS

I am in the market for a new atv. I went to a dealer the other day and say a Big Bear 400 IRS. The asking price was 5100. Is this a good quad or have there been issues with this model?

Big Bears have always been tough reliable ATVs. Yamaha adding IRS would not change anything but give it a smoother ride, better ground clearance, more rear suspension travel and get rid of the rear drum brake finally. Can,t lose situation.

A workhorse and reliable quad. Top speed of around 45 but is one of the few remaining semi autos. I think that is a very fair price too.

They are very reliable. I had a SRA version and even though I didnt get to ride it a lot, there really just isnt too much to go wrong on them. I would have liked to have had an IRS model, not so much because of the IRS, but for the selectable 4wd and front Differential lock. I am a fan of 5 speed semi-auto's on fourwheelers and the big bear was one of the last few. They are discontinuing them I believe.

Looks like your right,I don,t see the Big Bear in the 2013 line up 2012 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4 IRS ATVs

Thats sad I think the Big Bear was around since 1988. That was one long run.
My old 1989 350 Big bear I sold 6 years ago is still running around. I bought the the 350 Grizzly with the thought I might have similar luck with it since they have the same motor and simpleness.
