Dseater, congrats on the awesome bike. If the insurance is outrageous, check into an R6....insurance will be MUCH cheaper.

BIRDofPREY is right, street bike are unimaginably (<-sp?) faster than ATVs.
My dad had a VMax 1200. We were 2 on the bike, and it would power wheelie (front wheel 2" from the ground) up to 4th, and 2 on the machine, without even doing anything to lift the wheel). It could sustain long 130mph runs, ridng double again (french policemen aren't as autoritarious as american cops ). There was a place perfect to see if the top rpm were still working fine , a 3 lane highway, and all cars were on the right lane. Do I have to mention we always started from low 2nd to top 5th...at the beginning of the acceleration, the cars already seemed to be stopped. unbelievable. And the R1 is even faster.
Watch out, take care.

I know a guy that has a 99R1 it has over 10,000 miles on it, and he had to replce 2nd gear in it. He said thats the gear he pulls alot of wheelies in and it hard on it. He'd pull wheelies all the way down the road until the front wheel stopped spinning. He aslo has a GSX-r1000 that he says is alot faster!! Remember life at 140mph stops.......

Congratulations. That is one good looking bike. I have owned 3 bikes in the last 3 years. A '97 YZF 1000, a 99 ZX-9, and now I own a 2000 Red and Grey Hayabusa. Now the R1 is fast but lets not go as far as to say it is "as powerful as a Hayabusa". R1...128hp at the rear wheel. Hayabusa 160hp at the rear wheel. I actually had money down on an R1 but I didnt like the notchy transmission and good grief it was uncomfortable. The ZX-9 spoiled me though. I also have had many helmets and one of the best for the money was the Shoei RF-800. Got it for less than $200 and it sure beat the heck out of the old HJC I had. You have to also look at the saftey ratings on the helmets. You want one that is DOT and Snell approved. Alot of helmets you pay for comfort not saftey. If a $100 helmet has these ratings then it protects you in a crash just as good as an $800
helmet with the same ratings. Be careful on that bike 'cause I bet it sucks being dead.

I hope the r1 is more comfortable than some of you make it sound!!!

26 years old, R1, $27 a month, Wow that's cheap. Is that full coverage?

I always bought used sport bikes(87 Kawasaki 750 and a 95 ZX-6R) and just had liability only. Maybe it's time to consider a R6, Hmmm. I've still got a leather riding jacket(FIRSTGEAR) and a helmet(SHOEI). I guess I'll have to go ride my Raptor and forget about the R6 for now.

Have fun and be carefull, I've heard it's a great bike.

There's no way it's full coverage. If it is, then the insurance company doesn't know WHAT they are insuring.
