should I buy a 2002 yamaha blaster
It would be my first quad but I ride quads a lot its bored over 4 times with a high compression weisco piston and hot rod crank...new tires and brakes fresh top and bottom rebuild with only one tank of gas through it it also has 400ex shock in the rear. Would that be good for me. Im 16 and are the blasrers high maintenance. Thanks for the answers.

I would start with a four stroke for a first quad, but a two stroke will be just fine. Two strokes are more work. I would say go for it as long as its a good price. Lot more maintenance that you will have to keep up with if you go with a two stroke. In the long run it will teach you how to work on quads.

A Blaster is a good quad to start out on. They are cheap and easy to work on and parts are fairly cheap. The worst thing about the Blasters pre-2003 are the rear brakes and the suspension is not that great. Alot of my friends started on Blasters back in the 90's.
I think for about the same money you could buy a 400EX that would be much better, be more reliable, be faster, and have better suspension and would be 4 stroke so you won't have to mix gas and oil.

I had a 96 Yamaha Blaster and i had it for a couple of years and it was a great starter quad for me (if you do want the blaster make sure you grab 2 hand fulls of spark plugs), my friend also had a raptor 250 and i would smoke him every time, I don't have anything against the raptor 250s but i just believe they are slow and I got bored easy on it. About the shocks what raptor450 says the shocks arnt that great but ive jumped myne off the side of a gravel pit from an abandoned rail road tracks and landed a little bit rouch but the shocks held (so did my legs) I pefer the blaster but that my opinion.
