Default Kodiak 400 fan

The fan on my 1997 Kodiak has never ever turned on I know it works because I did test it. I'm wandering how to put a toggle switch on it to.control it manually

Simple toggle design that you can either hook the + and - to the battery OR just find an unused wire(most atvs have one for accessories) that has 12 volts when the key is switched on and a good frame or common ground area for the black ground wire. Saves running positive and negative wires all the way to a battery.

I read somewhere all I have to.do.is cut the + and connect it to.the toggle switch and that works. Is this the case?

Might as well wire it to the ignition switch and have it runs at all times.
How would you ever know if the motor was hot? The oil coolers even works and does its job without a fan.
My 1989 350 Big Bear 4x4 ran great in any conditions and its oil cooler did not even have the fan assist option.

I don't want to have it run if I'm going through a deep hole that's why I need it to.shut off

Not if you still have the fan wired up using the radiator sensor and especially if the fan doesn't come on now. You either need to find out if the sensor is bad,not completing the fan circuit and repair this or whatever is needed, then you can splice a toggle switch inline to shut the fan off if you wish when it does come on. Or again simply bypass any sensors, wire the fan direct to a hot wire and solid ground and install a toggle.http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-02-Yamaha-YFM400-YFM-400-Kodiak-4x4-4WD-temp-temperature-radiator-fan-sensor-/400683214284?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d4a94a5cc&vxp=mtr

Good point.

Are you sure the thing does not work? I thought the same thing on my 350 Grizzly. It sure takes a hot slugging ride to make the fan finally come on. On just normal trail riding it never comes on.

If not, just buy the correct fan senor like mentioned above and have it come on and of like it was originally intended. Probably less work then monkeying around with the wiring.

But at $70 for a new thermal sensor its your call. Part#10 http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...97&fveh=189156

My thermal sensor on my Polaris quit on the rad and the dealer wanted over $100. I bought the sensor into a auto parts store (Napa) and they had it for $30. Turned out the Nissan Maxama used the same sensor.

You make get lucky.
